Why Prescribon?

Medical prescriptions have traditionally been hand-written. In spite of advancements in medicine, sadly and surprisingly, prescriptions continue to be manually written.

Writing medical prescriptions presupposes that the individual has clear knowledge of the use of drugs - doses, use in different clinical situations, incompatibility and proper selection. All this come from years of hardwork, and dedication.

Even after having a clear idea of what to write, there remains the grave responsibility of clearly writing them for each patient.

Writing a prescription manually, entails all the disadvantages of such a task:

  • Takes time to write.
  • There is a legal requirement that the doctor should write both the Generic Name and the Brand Name which adds to the burden of the already busy doctor.
  • The instructions to the patient has to be written clearly and in detail which is a repetitive task.
  • The pharmacist, sometimes, has to put in a lot of effort to comprehend the doctors’ hastily written prescriptions.
  • Patients or their attendants have even more difficulty to understand the prescription.
  • Repeatedly writing prescriptions entails mistakes due to boredom, inattentiveness, omission, carelessness and many a time inclusion of incompatible drugs
With e-prescriptions, say good bye to such shortcomings!

Here, the information technology can help the doctor a great deal and that is what the role of e-prescription is.

The e-prescriptions are legibly printed.

Both the Generic Name and the Brand Name are printed in any combination the doctor chooses. And all this in a matter of about 2 minutes!

Most e-prescriptions are pre-prepared with age-wise dose schedules.

Define the Clinical condition, Choose the prescription and print! That's all!

e-prescriptions have never been so Easy!

Enjoy it!

Highlights of Prescribon

  • Prescribon has pre-prepared Treatment schedules for Common Clinical Conditions.

  • Treatment schedules are divided into 20 age groups (16 of them for Pediatrics alone) for precise dosing of each drug.

  • For each clinical condition, comorbidities are associated. For example, for Pneumonia, in addition to drug for fever, antibiotic for infection (if bacterial), a supportive B Complex, a cough expectorant (for daytime use), and a cough suppressant (for bedtime) - all are required. All these come SIMULTANEOUSLY on the prescription page - at the click of a button.

  • Dosages in drops, mL, or teaspoons are pre-calculated for each drug.

  • Intravenous dosings have precise instructions for each drug: diluent, dilution, quantity, drops/minute, and duration [No time-consuming calculations and instructions to the nurse are necessary]. The residual volume of a drug solution [remaining after the IV drip is over] are pre- calculated and included in the preparation of the total volume of the IV solution.

  • Treatment Schedules for Diabetes: 1-Drug Therapy, 2-Drug Therapy, and 3-Drug Therapy are incorporated for step-wise additions.

  • Treatment Schedules for Hypertension. 1-Drug Therapy, 2-Drug Therapy, and 3-Drug Therapy are incorporated for step-wise additions for ease of prescribing. First Line, Second Line, Preferred, Acceptable, Less effective, Risky, and Contraindicated Combinations are indicated.

  • Treatment schedules for Seizures and Epilepsy for Adult and Pediatric Age Group are given. Each special type of Seizure is dealt with; Preferable and Alternative Drugs are given. Notes on Most Favoured, Favoured and UNFavoured combinations are indicated. 1-Drug, and 2-Drug Therapy [and 3-Drug Therapy for Adults] are incorporated for easy prescribing. Expert opinions on particular combinations are also included.

  • An important feature of the software is the drug-drug interaction. Any inadvertent inclusion of,
for example, Erythromycin and any Fluoroquinolone in the same prescription will be given a pop- up message by the software indicating that the combination is to be avoided. The doctor can either go ahead with the prescription or alter it.

A Frequently Asked Question

All this is OK! But I am already seeing many patients a day. Diagnosing and writing prescriptions come naturally to me. I don't even consciously think about it! So, why should I opt for Prescribon?

Rightly said!

Years of hard work and training makes your brain circuitry zero-in on the correct diagnosis.

At present, no computer wizardry can replace human intelligence for Diagnosis.

But for treating ordinary clinical conditions, the repetitive work of writing a prescription can be digitized;

Furthermore, repetitive work brings in boredom and unfortunately, mistakes - sometimes dangerous mistakes!

They can creep in, even though unconsciously!

Naturally these prescriptions are disasters and are to be absolutely avoided!

Opting for e-prescription avoids all such mistakes – No matter how many times you repeat a prescription, the computer does it for you, faithfully without even a protest, as if it is for the first time!

Human mind can never work like that!

A long prescription can inadvertently include a medicine which is repeated in the same prescription. The digital prescription does not allow duplicate entries. Most prescriptions have important contraindications, warnings and details relevant to that condition.
